Official NASA photograph taken in the White House on September 7, 1974. In addition to President Ford and the three American astronauts, the two Soviet cosmonauts (Valery N. Kubasov and Alexei A. Leonov), Soviet Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin, NASA Deputy Administrator George M. Low and Soviet Chief of Cosmonaut Training George V. Shatalov are also pictured. The Soviet cosmonauts and support crew members were touring Washington, D.C., September 7-8, 1974. The Apollo-Soyuz mission was the first manned space flight conducted jointly by the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. THOMAS P. STAFFORD (b.1930) was the commander and DONALD SLAYTON (1924-1993) was the docking module pilot of Apollo 18. VANCE BRAND (b.1931) was the command module pilot of Apollo 18. Both Apollo and Soyuz were launched from their respective countries on July 15, 1975. The docking in space of the two crafts occurred on July 17, and joint operations were conducted for two full days. Soyuz landed in the U.S.S.R. on July 21st and Apollo landed near Hawaii on July 24th. Fine condition.
