GERALD R. FORD
His signature on a bound copy of the "Warren Report" on the assassination of President Kennedy. Ford was the last surviving member of the Warren Commission, and a staunch defender of its verdict that Oswald - acting alone - killed JFK.
Book signed: "Gerald R. Ford" 888pp, 6x9¼. Report of the President's Commission on the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy (Washington, D.C., US Government Printing Office, 1964). Blue cloth binding, with Presidential seal on front board and gilt title on spine. Signed on title page. A former All-American football player at the University of Michigan and a Navy veteran of World War II, Gerald R. Ford (1913-2006) represented Michigan in the U.S. Congress (1949-1973), serving as Minority Leader (1965-1973). Following the resignation of Vice President Spiro T. Agnew in 1973, Ford became the first person nominated by the President and confirmed by vote of both Houses of Congress as Vice President under the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Following President Nixon's resignation on August 9, 1974, Vice President Ford became 38th President of the United States. Nominated by the Republican Party for a full term in 1976, Ford was narrowly defeated by Democrat Jimmy Carter. President Johnson appointed Representatives Gerald R. Ford and Hale Boggs, Senators Richard Russell and John Sherman Cooper, former CIA Director Allen Dulles and banker John J. McCloy to a seven-man commission headed by Chief Justice Earl Warren to investigate the assassination of President Kennedy. On September 27, 1964, the Warren Commission report was released with the conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald was the sole assassin. Ford's own book on the topic, Portrait of the Assassin, was published in 1965. Ford, the last surviving member of the Warren Commission, always firmly supported the Commission's conclusion that Oswald, acting alone, had slain the President. Spine slightly faded. Corners lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
