GERALD R. FORD and BOB HOPE
Gerald r. Ford and Bob Hope sign a program from "The Byron Nelson Golf Classic/Benefiting the Salesmanship Club Youth Camps/Preston Trail Golf Club - Dallas, Texas/April 29-May 2, 1982".
Program signed: "Gerald R. Ford" and "Bob Hope", 78p, 8¼x11. "The Byron Nelson Golf Classic/Benefiting the Salesmanship Club Youth Camps/Preston Trail Golf Club - Dallas, Texas/April 29-May 2, 1982". An original color photograph, 4½x3, picturing Ford, Hope and other golfers at the tournament, has been neatly affixed to the cover. GERALD Ford (1913-2006) and BOB Hope (1903-2003) frequently played golf together. In addition to golf and Palm Springs streets (Gerald Ford Drive, Bob Hope Drive), they also have their given first names in common. Ford, who was born Leslie Lynch King, Jr., was adopted by his stepfather, Gerald R. Ford, Sr., and Hope was born Leslie Townes Hope in 1903. They also had fun joking about Ford's golf game. Bob Hope once said: "We have 51 golf courses in Palm Springs. He (Ford) never decides which course he will play until after his first tee shot." Gerald Ford's take: "I deny allegations by Bob Hope that during my last game I hit an eagle, birdie, an elk and a moose." Light surface nicks at right edge. Fine condition.
