GERALD R. FORD
Critical of President Johnson, he urges "the American people" to "give us a new President, a new Congress" in 1968.
Typed Letter Signed: "Jerry Ford" as House Minority Leader, 1p, 8x10½½. Washington, D.C., 1967 September 28. To Mr. M.E. Farrand, San Francisco. In full: "May I thank you for your recent letter concerning the record of the United States since 1961. I well understand your grave concern which I share. We all regret that so many of the policies of this Administration have not been in the interests of the United States. This is one of the reasons why many of us are spending so much of our time and energy in pointing out the weaknesses and inefficiencies in the Johnson Administration. We are also suggesting constructive alternatives so that the American people are in a position to make a choice in November of 1968. Fortunately at that time voters of our country can give us a new President, a new Congress, and new officials at the state and local level so that our government will have new direction, new policies, and new hope." Fine condition. Ford has enclosed "Comments by Gerald R. Ford, Taken from the 'Congressional Record,' May 23, 1967", 1p, 8½x14. Headed: "The Growing Crisis in the Middle East". In these comments, Ford urges specific actions by President Johnson "to strengthen and repair the unity among our allies which has enabled the free world to weather such storms before." Folds. Lightly creased at blank margins. Fine condition. With original postmarked envelope bearing Ford's printed frank. Lightly creased. 4 circular stains at blank right corner, else fine condition. Three items.
