GERALD FORD Vice President who became President pens his signature on this Vice President's card
Vice Presidential Card signed: "Gerald R. Ford" and Secretarial [Richard Nixon] 3¾x2¼. Signed below the printed caption, "The Vice President/of the United States". After Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned in the wake of his "no contest" plea to charges of income tax evasion, House Minority Leader GERALD R. FORD (1913-2006) was nominated by Nixon and confirmed by both Houses of Congress, the first Vice President to be selected (1973) under the 25th Amendment. When President Nixon, faced with a pending vote of impeachment by the House of Representatives, resigned in August 1974, Ford succeeded to the nation's highest office, becoming the first US President elected to neither top office. He was narrowly defeated by Jimmy Carter in 1976 in his bid for a full term, partly because of his pardon of President Nixon. RICHARD M. NIXON (1913-1994), previously a US Representative and Senator from California, served eight years as Vice President under Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961). Narrowly defeated by John F. Kennedy in 1960, Nixon came back eight years later to win election and re-election, serving as President (1969-1974). Pinhead sized spot in lower right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
