Grover Cleveland addresses an envelope to Sidney Webster.
Autograph Envelope unsigned, 4½x3½, postmarked January 7, 1893. Circular ink stamp with same date appears on verso. The President-Elect has addressed the envelope to "Sidney Webster Esq/245 East 67th St/New York City". On March 4, 1893, Grover CLEVELAND took the oath of office, administered by Chief Justice Melville W. Fuller. It was the only time in U.S. history that a former U.S. President was inaugurated President, succeeding the man who had succeeded him four years earlier. Cleveland's wife, Frances Folsom Cleveland, was pregnant on Inauguration Day. On September 9, 1893, she gave birth to the couple's second child, Esther Cleveland, the first child of a President to be born in the White House. Sidney WEBSTER (1828-1910) wrote on issues of international law. Lightly soiled. 1½-inch paper separation at left edge of envelope flap. Otherwise, fine condition.
