Autograph Letter Signed: "Grover Cleveland" as 22nd U.S. President, 1½p, 5x8. Executive Mansion, Washington, 1887 January 11. To Charles N. Hickok, Esq., Bedford, Pennsylvania. In full: "Please accept my sincere thanks for your kind letter of Jan. 1st. Its entire disinterestedness and the appreciation it evinces of all that the Chief Magistrate of the Country has to do and suffer, and its genuine sympathy, are full of encouragement." Cleveland was Governor of New York when he was elected President on November 4, 1884, defeating former Maine Congressman, Senator, Speaker of the House and Secretary of State James G. Blaine 4.9 million to 4.8 million popular votes, 219-182 electoral votes, 20-18 states. Ink transference from being folded. Lightly rippled and soiled. Overall, fine condition.
