Grover Cleveland sends an autograph letter forwarding something he
has received and to say that he is glad Don M. Dickinson is coming.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Grover Cleveland", 1p, 8x10. New
York, 1890 December 15. To Hon. Don M. Dickinson, Detroit. On
Cleveland's law firm's stationery. In full: "I send you the enclosed
[not present], which I received this morning because I don't know what
else to do with it, and I am glad to unload one of the many things of the kind
which are poured out upon me, on you. I think we shall have a first rate time
here on the 23rd instant and I am very happy to know that you are coming. I have
never seen a better list of speakers - barring the old blunderbuss at its head.
With the heartiest kind of a 'Merry Christmas' to you and Mrs Dickinson and
Frances and Don Jr." DON M. DICKINSON had served as Cleveland's
Postmaster General from 1888-1889. Cleveland ran for reelection in 1888,
but lost to Benjamin Harrison. After leaving the White House in 1889, Cleveland
moved to New York City to resume his law practice. In 1892, Cleveland was
nominated for the third consecutive time, defeating President Harrison, becoming
the only former President to be elected President. Encapsulated. Folds, vertical
fold touches "nd" of Cleveland. Horizontal fold shows separation. Lightly soiled
and creased.
