GROVER CLEVELAND. ANS: "Grover Cleveland," 1p, 5x6½. No place, 1889 May 14. Recipient not named. In full: "Mrs Cleveland will be absent from the city for a number of days. The tickets are therefore returned as requested." On June 2, 1886, 49-year-old bachelor President Grover Cleveland married his 21-year-old ward, Frances Folsom, in the White House. After leaving the White House on March 3, 1889, the Clevelands moved to New York City. They returned to the White House in 1893. Expertly strengthened on verso with conservator's paper. Erased pencil notations in blank upper and lower margins, light soiling. Lightly creased. Small tear at left blank margin repaired by back paper.
