Democratic President, JFK (11/9/1960).

Truman/11-9-60". B/w, 8x10 mounted to 11x14. Photographer's name at lower right: "Harris
& Ewing, Washington, D.C." Harry S Truman (1884-1972) signed this photo on
November 9, 1960, the same day newspapers across the country proclaimed the
narrow victory of fellow Democrat John F. Kennedy in the 1960 presidential election.
Twelve years earlier, Truman had won an equally close and unexpected triumph over
Thomas E. Dewey, creating "one of the major upsets in American political history".
The famous Missouri native had succeeded to the presidency after serving as Vice
President for only 82 days. Faced with the ordeal of ending World War II (1939-1945),
Truman ordered the atomic bombings on Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9). He
fought the Cold War with the Truman Doctrine, a policy reducing Communist pressures on
Greece and Turkey through economic and military aid. During his second term, Truman sent
U.S. forces to South Korea to repel invading North Korean troops. Fine condition. Framed to
an overall size of 17x27¾.
