HARRY S TRUMAN
Harry Truman signs a memorandum with his initials returning a letter.
Typed Memorandum signed: "H.S.T." as President, 1p, 6¼x9¼. The White House,
Washington, 1945 October 17. To Robert E. Hannegan, Postmaster General. In full: "I
am returning your letter from Darryl F. Zanuck. I think I made a start on the situation
last night." On October 16, 1945, President TRUMAN presented General George C.
Marshall with permanent membership in the Reserve Officer Association. General
Marshall, Truman and Hollywood producer ZANUCK were all Freemasons, so it is possible
that Zanuck was present at the affair honoring a fellow Mason. Missourian ROBERT
EMMET HANNEGAN was Truman's Postmaster General from 1945-1947, while also
serving as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (1944-1947). Folds, horizontal
fold touches initials. Receipt stamp at upper right margin, lightly stained at left margin. Overall,
fine condition.
