THE PRESIDENT WRITES TO HIS PARTNER IN AN OIL WELL COMPANY THAT WENT BANKRUPT!

HARRY S TRUMAN.
Typed Letter Signed: "Harry" as President, 1p, 7x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1950 March 4. To David H. Morgan, Eureka, Kansas. In full: "I appreciated most highly your letter of the 28th, and of course if I have an opportunity to get into the great State of Kansas during the coming summer and fall, I will be most happy to have you ride with me and talk with me about the situation in that State. I am most happy to hear that the drillings are coming along successfully." The eight electoral votes of the great State of Kansas went Republican for Dewey in the 1948 election for President. In 1916, Truman had become one of David H. Morgan's partners in Morgan & Company, an Oklahoma oil well firm that later went bankrupt. They remained lifelong friends. At the time of this letter, 34 years later, Morgan is still drilling! Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Light transference of type at lower left margin, stray ink mark at mid-right margin. Slightly soiled, light paper clip impression and stain at upper margin. Overall, fine condition.
