Foundation meeting
Typed Letter Signed: "Harry Truman", 1p, 7¼x10½. Kansas

In full: "I can't tell you how very much I appreciate your
thoughtfulness in sending me the pictures of the Four Freedoms Foundation
Meeting. I am more than happy to have them for my collection." On January 6,
1941, President Roosevelt proclaimed that four freedoms are essential to a
flourishing democracy: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship,
freedom from want, and freedom from fear. Each year, to encourage leadership
in fulfilling President Roosevelt's vision of the four freedoms, the Four
Freedoms Foundation, now known as the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute,
honors outstanding individuals who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to
these ideals. President Truman was one of its early recipients. Paper clip
impression at upper left blank margin. Nailhead-size stain at upper right blank
margin. Fine condition.
