HERBERT HOOVER
Rare autograph letter signed in pencil, on a business matter
Rare Autograph Letter Signed: "Hoover" in pencil, 1p, 8x8½. No
place, no date. To "Dear M[illegible]". In full: "Will you
communicate to the Canners the notice to Jobbers that they must accept Contracts
- Also I have discussed with Gutterson & others the possibility of Army
& Navy taking immediate delivery of [cross out]
allotments which he thinks is feasible - Will you follow this up
[remainder torn away]". Beneath his signature, Hoover has written:
"Copy". Herbert Clark Hoover (1874-1964), the first President born
west of the Mississippi River, served as 31st President of the U.S.
from 1929-1933. Prior to taking office, Hoover had been Secretary of
Commerce (1921-1928) under Presidents Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge.
Hoover lived longer after his term of office than any other U.S. President: 31
years and 231 days. Holograph letters of Hoover are exceedingly rare. Worthy
of further research. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Torn at
lower left blank edge and at lower margin, removing some writing. Overall, fine
condition.
