PRESIDENT HERBERT HOOVER - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 03/05/1930 - HFSID 16395
Price: $1,200.00
Herbert Hoover
The President appreciates congratulations on completing his first
year in office.
Typed Letter Signed: "Herbert Hoover" as 31st U.S.
President, 1p, 7x9. The White House, Washington, 1930 March 5. To
Moses Tanenbaum, 516 Fifth Avenue, New York City. In full: "Please
accept my sincere thanks for your kind message of congratulation and good
wishes. I appreciate it indeed". Tanenbaum's good wishes were especially
welcome. In the period between October 29, 1929 and December 1, 1929, stocks on
the New York Stock Exchange had dropped in value by $26 billion. On October 30,
1929, President Hoover tried to reassure the country by saying, "The fundamental
business of the country...is on a sound and prosperous basis". Unfortunately, he
was wrong. The Great Depression of the 1930s, which crippled the nation and
doomed Hoover politically, had begun. Lightly stained in upper portion and at
right blank edge, paper clip impression at upper left corner, else fine
condition.
