In a signed, typed reply, the President informs a Senator that he has forwarded to the
Attorney General an application for restoration of civil rights.
Typed Letter Signed: "Herbert Hoover" as President, 1 page, 7x9. The White House,
Washington, 1930 March 5. To Senator Frederic C. Walcott. In full: "I have received your
letter of March 4th in which you enclose the application of George W. Field for the restoration of
his civil rights. I shall send these papers to the Attorney General for consideration." Republican
FREDERICK C. WALCOTT represented Connecticut in the U.S. Senate from 1929-1935.
WILLIAM D. MITCHELL served as Hoover's Attorney General from 1929-1933. A
person who has forfeited rights of citizenship as a result of a felony conviction may apply
for restoration of those rights, including the right to vote, to serve on a jury, and to hold
public office. Since his application has been forwarded to the US Attorney General, George
Field must have been sentenced by a federal or military court. Folds, not at signature.
