HERBERT HOOVER
Near the end of World War II, he signs a typed letter saluting "American
boys who are serving their country with such magnificent courage".
Typed Letter Signed: "Herbert Hoover", 1 page, 7¼x 10½. The
Waldorf-Astoria Towers, New York, 1945 May 31. To Mrs. A.F. Murray,
Bridgeton, N.J. In full: "That was a delightful letter and one which
recalls many pleasant memories. I am hoping that all goes well with your family.
Certainly all Americans can be most grateful to your boys and those other
American boys who are serving their country with such magnificent courage."
On May 7, 1945, 24 days earlier, Germany surrendered to the Allies at
Rheims. General Eisenhower accepted for the Allied forces. President Truman
proclaimed the next day, May 8, 1945, as V-E (Victory in Europe) Day. But WWII
was not over yet. It was not until the September 2, 1945 surrender of Japanese
forces to General MacArthur that WWII finally ended. Fine
condition.
