Typed Letter Signed: "Herbert Hoover" as Coolidge's Secretary of Commerce and Republican presidential nominee, 1 page, 7x9. Washington, 1928 June 22. Eight days after receiving the Republican presidential nomination, Hoover writes to Reverend Paul N. Hickock, Second Presbyterian Church, Troy, New York. In full: "Now that the rush of the past few days has somewhat modified, there is time for me to write my thanks for your fine letter of the 12th, expressing the hope that I might be nominated. The result of the Convention you know. For all your good wishes, and for your work in my behalf, I am very grateful; but most of all I appreciate the note of friendship your letter conveys. That will be heartening in the coming battle." In the November 6, 1928, election Hoover defeated the Democratic candidate, New York Governor Alfred E. Smith, the first Catholic major party presidential candidate, 444-87 electoral votes. Fine condition.
