HERBERT HOOVER
He signs a typed letter to an old friend from the mining business, informing him that Hoover and his son Allan will be "motoring up" to Idaho.
Typed Letter Signed: "Herbert Hoover", 1 page, 7¼x10½. No place, 1940 July 27. To Lawrence Requa, Weiser, Idaho. In full: "I have seen your letter of July 24th to Allan. Allan and I will be motoring up to Weiser, arriving there about the fifth. I expect to motor on alone from there up to West Yellowstone. I had communicated to you about Hepburn with the idea that I might meet you at his property as it is not far off the way. I notice the cobalt property has gone down the usual alley after capable examination." LAWRENCE KENDALL REQUA and his father, Mark L. Requa, were mining associates and friends of the Herbert Hoover family. Between 1902 and 1907, Hoover and his family circled the globe five times. Herbert Jr. was born in London in 1903 and within five weeks he was packed in a basket as his family set off on a world journey. Hoover traveled to oversee other people's work and evaluate business arrangements offered to his company. He acted as a financier, promoter, geologist, engineer and metallurgist. Hoover was also gaining fame within his profession. People spoke of "Young Hoover" or the "great engineer". London was the center of the metal-mining world at this time, and the Hoovers made it their home away from home. ALLAN HENRY HOOVER was born in London in 1907. He died in 1993. Light horizontal fold through signature. 2 file holes at upper blank margin. Fine condition.
