Typed Letter Signed: "Herbert Hoover" as 31st U.S. President, 1p, 7x9. The White House, Washington, 1932 November 16. To Ray Baker Harris, Washington, D.C. In full: "I have been deeply touched by the thousands of messages from friends who, like yourself, have loyally supported my efforts, have given me so much friendship, and have been moved by a personal warmth of understanding to send me a cheering word of greeting. I am indeed grateful for it." This letter was written by President Hoover eight days after his defeat for a second term. In the November 8, 1932, election, Hoover lost in a landslide to New York Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt, 472 electoral votes and 42 states to 59 votes and six states. Light show through at upper left and right blank corners from tape remnants on integral leaf. Lightly soiled, overall, fine condition.
