Typed Letter Signed: "Herbert Hoover" as President-elect, 1 page, 7¼x7½. Stanford University, California, 1928 November 17. To Karl Goedecke, Hazelton, Pennsylvania, thanking him for his "kind letter" and "message of congratulation". Eleven days earlier, on November 6, 1928, Harding and Coolidge's former Secretary of Commerce (1921-1928) Herbert Hoover had defeated New York Governor Alfred E. Smith, winning 40 states and 444 electoral votes to Smith's eight states and 87 electoral votes. Irregularly cut lower edge.
