In full: "I enjoyed being with you, & appreciate your friendship & confidence. During the coming months your advice & active support can be very valuable to me. I'll do my best never to disappoint you. Your friend." On December 12, 1974, just three and a half weeks before writing this letter and four months after Nixon's resignation, Jimmy Carter became the first announced candidate for the 1976 presidential nomination. Five days after he wrote this letter, his term as Governor ended. On October 1, 1975, on his 51st birthday, his plans for America were published in his book, Why Not the Best?. Fine condition.
