Commemorative Envelope signed: "Jimmy Carter", "Hubert H. Humphrey", "Ted Kennedy" and "Muriel Humphrey", 6½x3½. Pair of 3-cent Will Rogers stamps affixed at upper right, postmarked Groton, Connecticut, July 21, 1966. General Dynamics cachet commemorates the launching of the nuclear submarine USS Will Rogers, originally scheduled for July 7, 1966, with Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson as Sponsor. It has been corrected to July 21, 1966, with Mrs. Hubert H. Humphrey, wife of the Vice President, as the Sponsor. Jimmy Carter, the only U.S. President to be a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, worked under Admiral Hyman G. Rickover in the nuclear submarine program. Ted Kennedy had been elected to the U.S. Senate in neighboring Massachusetts on November 6, 1962, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of his brother, John F. Kennedy. Fine condition.
