CAMP DAVID ACCORDS: JIMMY CARTER, ANWAR SADAT, and MENACHEM BEGIN
The three leaders sign a first day cover that's beautifully framed with a photograph and two plaques!
First Day Cover Signed: "Jimmy Carter", "Anwar Sadat", and "M. Begin" in various ink colors. 6½x3½ of cover visible in frame. Cover features "World Peace through Law" cachet at left bearing a globe, dove, and open book. A commemorative 10 cent stamp is at top right, with a FIRST DAY OF ISSUE cancellation mark. Postmarked Washington D.C., September 29, 1975. The stamp was issued three weeks after Israeli and Egyptian leaders signed a preliminary Arab state and Israel had entered into any agreement. Two years later Carter would act as intermediary for the Camp David Summit that would finalize a treaty between the two nations. For entering into the agreement, Sadat and Begin would share the 1978 Nobel Prize for Peace. Sadat's decision to recognize Israel and break from the rest of the Muslim nations in the region resulted in discontent in Egypt and his assassination in 1981. In 2002, Carter received his own Nobel Peace Prize. Sadat's signature is faint. Otherwise, fine condition. Framed in Gallery of History style: 23x21¼.
