Partly Printed Document signed: "James Madison" as fourth U.S. President, 1p, 15x8½. Washington, 1813 October 7. Land grant for a section of land in the vicinity of modern Dayton, Ohio. In part: "Know ye, that the Heirs of David Burntragen descemdent of David Douglas, having deposited in the Treasury a certificate of the Register of the Land-office at Cincinnati, whereby it appears that full payment has been made for hundred and fifty one acres & twenty eight hundreths of lad, being all north of John C. Symmes' patent in the west half of section Twenty-five, of Township Three, in Range Four, of the land lying between the Great Miami river and the Virginia reservation. ..." Countersigned: "Edward Tiffin" as Commissioner of the General Land Office. On vellum. 2¼-inch paper seal affixed at lower left. Partly printed docketing on verso. President JAMES MADISON issued this land grant during the War of 1812. EDWARD TIFFIN served as Commissioner from 1812-1829. Creased with folds, vertical fold crosses "Ja" of the President's signature. Rippled around seal. Soiled, primarily at blank areas. Moisture stain in blank upper left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
