Doodles, unsigned, 5x3½, front and verso. Dated: "1961" (unknown hand) in red ink at lower left corner on verso. JFK, who was known as a doodler, has written "Feed Grain", "Hayes/Rhodes" and five sets of boxed numbers in black ink. "Feed Grain" and "209-202" in blue ink (unknown hand). On verso, JFK has drawn a several arrows rising from a square. Likely done as President (or President-elect), as JFK was inaugurated on January 20, 1961. JFK's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, mentions his doodles in her book, My Twelve Years with John F. Kennedy. JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY (1917-1963) was a Democratic U.S. Senator from Massachusetts from January 3, 1953-December 22, 1960, when he resigned having been elected the 35th U.S. President. Kennedy had previously served in the U.S. Congress from 1947-1953. "Rhodes" was possibly U.S. Senator JOHN JACOB RHODES, JR. (1916-2003), the first Republican elected to the U.S. Senate from Arizona. Rhodes, who served from 1953-1983, was House Minority Leader from 1973-1980. Diagonally cut at upper right blank margin, ¾-inch tear at upper portion (repaired with tape on verso) touches 1 letter of writing in unknown hand. Slightly soiled, tackhead-size stain at upper margin. Overall, fine condition.
