JOHN F. KENNEDY
The future president writes to one of his constituents about helping another constituent with the Veterans Affairs.
Typed Letter Signed:"Jack-"as Congressman, 1p, 8x10½.House of Representatives, Washington, D.C., 1948 April 20.  The stationery indicates that Kennedy was serving on the committees of Education and Labor and District of Columbia.  To William F. Kelly, East Boston, Massachusetts. In full: "Further reference is made to your interest in Mr. James Romani of 76 Everett Street, East Boston. I am enclosing, herewith, a copy of the letter I have just received from Mr. R. J. Hinton, Director of Dependents and Beneficiaries Claims Service, Veterans Administration, which speaks for itself. I trust that a final and favorable determination will be made in the near future. My best wishes to Mrs. Kelly. I certainly hope she is doing well and that she will be up to par again shortly. With kindest personal regards, Sincerely yours,"At the age of 28, John F. Kennedy entered politics, involving most of the members of his family in his campaign to win the Democratic nomination for Congress in Massachusetts' Eleventh District. After beating out nine other candidates in the primary, he easily defeated the Republican nominee in the general election and served from 1947-1952. Known for his accessibility to his constituents, Kennedy supported most of President Truman's "Fair Deal" program, although he occasionally attacked the President's foreign policy. Lightly creased through top of "J" in Jack. File holes at upper blank margin. Overall, fine condition.
