JOHN F. KENNEDY
The first Boy Scout to become President will meet with a Boston Boy Scout executive.
Typed Letter Signed: "Jack" as Congressman, 1p, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1949 June 7. To Arthur E. Jenner, Assistant Scout Executive, Boston Council Inc., Boy Scouts of America. In full: "I have your letter of recent date, in which you enclosed a clipping regarding the bestowal of Boy Scout awards in Boston, at the session of the National Council of Boy Scouts. With regard to your desire to sit down and discuss a problem which confronts the First District, I want to assure you that I shall be happy to do so. I intend to be in Boston this week-end, and during the week-end of June 18th; and I would therefore suggest that you get in touch with my Boston office so that they can arrange a suitable time and date. With best wishes, Sincerely yours," The 32-year-old Congressman, a former Boy Scout, has written this letter on his personal Congressional stationery that lists his membership in the Education and Labor and the District of Columbia Committees. In 1949 he also became a member of the joint committee on Labor Management Relations. Later in the year, Congressman Kennedy toured Europe and the Middle East, visiting France, Poland, the Balkans, Russia, Turkey and Israel. Lightly creased.
