JOHN F. KENNEDY
The Senator thanks a constituent for her kind words following the death of his sister
Typed Letter Signed: "Jack" as U.S. Congressman, one page, 6¼x8. On his Congressional letterhead but written from New York City, June 21, 1948. To Mrs. Muldoon. In full: "It was very kind of you to write me. Certainly the support of friends is most helpful at this difficult time. I want you to know that I deeply appreciate your thoughtful expression of sympathy." Accompanied by original typed envelope, 6¼x3¼, bearing printed frank of JFK. Postmarked New York, New York, June 24, 1948. The freshman Congressman had been in office for just over a year when Kathleen, his favorite sister and confidant since childhood, was killed in a plane crash on May 13, 1948 while en route to Paris to meet their father. John F. Kennedy (1917-1963), a decorated US Navy veteran of World War II, represented Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives (1947-1953) and Senate (1953-1960). In 1957, he was named to the prestigious Foreign Relations Committee. During his first term as U.S. Senator, Kennedy co-wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning Profiles in Courage while recovering from back surgery. The book discusses eight times in U.S. history where a U.S. Senator stood up for what he thought was right, no matter what his party or the public had to say. Kennedy went on to become the nation's 35th President. Sadly, his tenure in the Oval Office was cut short by the infamous assassination in Dallas Texas, on November 22, 1963, subject to numerous conspiracy theories in the decades since. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Ink lightly beaded.  Fine condition. Two items. Framed to an overall size of 28¾x21.
