JOHN F. KENNEDY
John F. Kennedy sends a typed letter concerning a constituent.
Typed Letter Signed: "Jack" as Massachusetts Congressman, 1p, 8x10½. House of Representatives, Washington, D.C., 1951 June 26. To his Boston aide, William F. Kelly, East Boston. In full: "This will acknowledge receipt of your letter of June 22nd, relative to your interest in Amadio Bianco of 326 Meridian Street, East Boston, who is anxious to secure an apartment in one of the projects of the Boston Housing Authority. In reply, I wish to advise you that I am immediately taking this matter up with Mr. James J. Mahar, Chairman of the Boston Housing Authority, and shall be very glad to do what I can to assist Mr. Bianco. I believe that if he had veterans' preference, he would stand a better chance of securing such housing. I am writing direct to Mr. Bianco, and shall keep him informed as to the results of my efforts in his behalf. With best wishes, Sincerely," In a typed postscript, JFK adds: "Bill, if there is anything I can do to assist you in locating housing, I certainly hope you will get in touch with me." In the early 1900s, Italian immigrants began to settle in East Boston, becoming the major ethnic group in the neighborhood by 1915. Elected to the House of Representatives in 1946, Kennedy was reelected in 1948 and 1950, elected to the Senate in 1952 and 1958 and elected President in 1960. Lightly creased. File holes at upper margin. Horizontal fold touches signature.
