JUAN PERÓN and EDELMIRO FARRELL
Five days before his temporary ouster from power, Peron co-signs a Presidential order that a lawsuit be brought against a civilian involved in a collision with a military vehicle.
Document signed: "Perón" as Minister of War, 8¾x12½. Also signed "EJ Farrell" (General and acting President). Buenos Aires, 1944 October 4. In Spanish, loosely translated. A military post office vehicle was involved in a collision on April 11. Responsibility for the accident has been attributed to motorist Pedro Domingo Gallo, driver of a truck belonging to the Vehicle Club of Argentina. Therefore, the President orders that measures be taken to initiate a suit for damages, in order to recover 155 Argentine Pesos, the cost of repairing the military vehicle. JUAN PERÓN (1895-1974) was part of a military junta, which seized power in 1943 and made him secretary of labor and social welfare. Promoted to Vice President and Minister of War in 1944 but purged by suspicious fellow officers on October 9 1945, Perón was released after massive protests by the labor unions whose support he had cultivated, and restored to office on October 17. Perón was elected President in 1946, serving until overthrown in a military coup (1956). Peron ruled with authoritarian methods, but his program of nationalism and economic justice appealed to many of his countrymen. While Perón lived in exile in Spain, his Peronista movement remained a powerful force in Argentine politics. He once again served as President from 1973 until his death. His first wife, Maria Eva Duarte (1919-1952), affectionately called Evita, helped him as de facto Minister of Health and Labor, acquiring a mass following of her own. EDELMIRO JULIAN FARRELL (1887-1980), an Argentine General, was de facto President from February 1944 until replaced by the newly elected Perón in June 1946. He came to power in a reshuffle within the Argentine military, which had seized power in 1943. File holes at left edge. Light edge creases. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
