Photograph signed in 1985, the year he began his first term as President of
Uruguay
Photograph signed: "Julio M Sanguinetti/85". B/w 4¾x7. Accompanied by
transmittal letter in Spanish from the President's private secretary, dated May
13, 1985, and original envelope. Julio Maria Sanguinetti Coiolo (b. 1936), a
journalist, entered the Uruguayan national parliament in 1963 (at age
27). He represented Uruguay at the founding of the UN Conference on Trade
and Development (UNCTAD) in 1964. A member of the Colorado Party, he became
Minister of Education and Culture in 1972, but lost his offices when the
military took power in 1973. From 1973 to 1981, he was active as an
opposition journalist. He stored to his seat in 1981, he was President
of Uruguay from 1985 to 1990, promoting the re-establishment of democratic
norms, and again from 1995 to 2000. Fine condition.
