LESLIE MUNRO and ARTHUR B. LANGLIE
Signature of the New Zealand Diplomat, dated in 1965. Also signed by Washington Governor Arthur B. Langlie on verso. Rare signatures.
Signature: "Leslie Munro/12th April 1965" and "Arthur B. Langlie/Seattle Washington/May 27, 1965", in blue ink, 7x9. News clippings attached to page (2 surfaces). LESLIE MUNRO (1901-1974) became the 14th President of the United Nations General Assembly in 1957, serving until 1958. Previously in 1952 he was elected the 3rd Minister from New Zealand in the United States (New Zealand Diplomat to the U.S.). In the New Zealand Parliament he served as Member for Waipa (1963-1969) and as Member for Hamilton West (1969-1972). Munro was knighted in 1955 with a KCMG, followed by a KCVO in 1957. ARTHUR BERNARD LANGLIE (1900-1966) served as Governor of Washington from 1941 to 1945 and again from 1949 to 1957. He also served as the mayor of Seattle Washington from 1938-1941. A lawman from the University of Washington, Langlie practiced law in Seattle for nearly 10 years before winning a Seattle City Council seat in 1935 as a candidate of the conservative and moralistic reform group the New Order of Cincinnatus. At the age of 40 he was the youngest Governor elected in Washington until Dan Evans was elected. Creased. Left edge frayed. Otherwise, fine condition.
