This mounted color photograph is of a 1965 drawing of LBJ signed "With every good wish" by Johnson on the mounting. It may have belonged to Senator Russell B. Long of Louisiana. The total size of this piece is an impressive 11x14.
Inscribed photograph mount signed "To Richard Daschbach/With every good wish/Lyndon B. Johnson." Color, 7½x9¼ photo on 10¾x13¾ mounting. This photo is of a 1965 color drawing of Johnson. Written on back of mounting: "Senator Russell B. Long/217 Old Senate Office Bld,." Long, the son of Louisiana Governor and Senator Huey P. Long, represented that state in the U.S. Senate from 1948 to 1987.Johnson (1908-1973, born near Stonewall, Texas) became the 36th U.S. President (1963-1969) upon the assassination of John F. Kennedy, under whom Johnson had served as Vice President from 1961 to 1963. Johnson had previously served as a U.S. Representative (1937-1949) and U.S. Senator from Texas (1949-1960, resigning upon being elected Vice President). Johnson declined to run for a second term in 1968 due to the escalation of the Vietnam conflict. Photo is lightly toned. Signature is lightly faded. Otherwise in fine condition.
