ON NEW YEAR'S DAY 1963, VICE PRESIDENT JOHNSON SENDS "WARMEST
WISHES FOR A PEACEFUL, PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR"
LYNDON B. JOHNSON. Typed Letter Signed: "Lyndon"
as JFK's Vice President, 1p, 7x9. The Vice President, Washington, 1963
January 1. To Mrs. Dorothy Nichols. In full: "Lady Bird and I are
glad you like the bracelet - glad you love us - and glad you expressed your love
for both so well. We love you more than you will ever know, and you have our
warmest wishes for a peaceful, prosperous new year." Fine condition.
Accompanied by photocopies of two articles, one picturing Dorothy Jackson
with Johnson. Fine condition. With Johnson through much of his political
career was DOROTHY JACKSON, the first secretary he hired when he went to
Congress in 1937. Miss Jackson was from Cotulla, Texas, where Johnson had taught
school while attending Southwest State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas.
She remained a close friend of both the future President and his wife. In
1940, when Jackson married lawyer Philip Nichols Jr., Johnson gave the bride
away. Except for the years she took off to have three children, Nichols
worked for LBJ until he left the White House, serving as a secretary
and Assistant to the President from 1963-1969. Three
items.
