Typed Letter Signed: "LBJ", 1p, 7x9. Austin, Texas, 1970 March 13. To Liz (Mrs. Will Odom), Austin. In full: "I came home today from the hospital and I like to think that the sweet messages of friends like you speeded my recovery. Thank you so much for writing and caring." Slightly creased. Lightly soiled at upper blank edge. Fine condition. With original typed envelope, bearing two printed franks. Lightly creased at upper edge. Fine condition. Plagued by arteriosclerosis, Johnson had been hospitalized for chest pains. He had a second heart attack in April 1972; his first was in 1955. While napping on the afternoon of January 22, 1973, the 64-year-old Johnson was stricken by a third attack and died on the way to the hospital. Two items.
