Honorable Michael J. Kirwan, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C. In
full: "I was enormously pleased and thrilled by your warm message on my
farm talk. The response throughout the country has been magnificent, but I am
particularly impressed by the enthusiastic approval of my close personal
friends, who quite often are my severest critics. It was most thoughtful of you
to take the time to give me your reactions and I thank you from the bottom of my
heart. With warmest regards and best wishes, Sincerely" Lyndon Baines
Johnson (1908-1973), the 36th President of the U.S. (1963-1969), had
served as U.S. Representative from Texas (1937-1949), U.S. Senator
from Texas (1949-1961 -- Senate Majority Whip, 1951-1953; Minority Leader,
1953-1955; Majority Leader, 1955-1961) and JFK's Vice President
(1961-1963). When President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963,
LBJ was sworn in as President aboard Air Force One. In 1964, he
was elected for a full four-year term, but did not seek reelection in 1968. Fold
