In full: "I have your letter of May 14, and I appreciate your telling me of Mrs. C.H. Booth's interest in assisting Miss Francoise Sechet, a young French girl attending Southwest Texas State Teachers College. It will be a pleasure to get in touch with the Immigration and Naturalization Service with reference to the special authorization Miss Sechet seeks in order that she may engage in employment as practical training and to supplement her income while she finishes her studies. I am asking Immigration officials to review her case carefully and let me have a report. You will hear from me promptly when it is received." In 1930, 21-year-old Lyndon B. Johnson was graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College and became the public speaking and debate teacher at Sam Houston High School, Houston, Texas. BEAUFORD H. JESTER (1893-1949) was Governor of Texas from 1947 to July 11, 1949, when he died of a heart attack, just seven weeks after receiving this letter. He was the only Texas Governor to die in office.
