In full: "I think you will be interested in the attached copy of a letter which I have received from the Army Air Forces with regard to the traffic control problem at the municipal airport there on which we have been working. I simply want to assure you that I was delighted at the opportunity to do what I could to get this problem squared away. I f anything else is needed, don't hesitate to let me know. In full: "Your letter of 1 July 1943, with which you inclosed [sic] a telegram from the Acting City Manager of Austin, Texas, concerning the traffic control problem at the municipal airport at that location, has been received. This matter was discussed with the C.A.A. and we have been advised informally that operator and equipment will be provided at the Austin Airport temporarily, pending the construction of a temporary control tower at the site, after which the C.A.A. will continue to operate traffic control on the airport. We are advised that temporary means have already been effected and there should be no further difficulty with traffic at this location. Your interest in this matter is greatly appreciated. Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908-1973), the 36th President of the U.S. (1963-1969), had served as U.S. Representative from Texas (1937-1949), U.S. Senator from Texas (1949-1961 -- Senate Majority Whip, 1951-1953; Minority Leader, 1953-1955; Majority Leader, 1955-1961) and JFK's Vice President (1961-1963). When President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, LBJ was sworn in as President aboard Air Force One.
