With February 19, 1991 transmittal letter from the Embassy of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in Washington, D.C., signed: [Yuri V. ] "Menshikov" as Attaché. Lightly creased, else fine. Mikhail Gorbachev (born in 1931) was the last General Secretary of the Communist Party of the U.S.S.R. and the last Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet (1985-1991). He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990 for his efforts to bring the Cold War to an end. His efforts were also noted by "Time" magazine, which named him its "Man of the Year" in 1987 and "Man of the Decade" (for the 1980s). The Soviet Union officially dissolved on December 26, 1991, the day after Gorbachev resigned. Two items.
