RICHARD NIXON
President Nixon signs a black and white publicity photograph of him and Pat Nixon addressing school children while in the White House.
Photograph signed: "Richard Nixon". B/w, 10x8. High school teacher Thelma Catherine [Patricia] Ryan (1912-1993) played the part of Daphne in the Alexander Wollcot-George S. Kaufman play, The Dark Tower, at the community theatre in Whittier, California opposite a local lawyer, Richard Nixon (1913-1994). He was instantly attracted to her and asked her out, but she said she was too busy. Nixon then told her he was going to marry her someday and she laughed. They finally started dating, but she continued dating others. Nixon would drive Pat to her date, wait around and then drive her home. On May 1, 1940, he slipped an engagement ring in a May Day basket of flowers. On June 21, 1940, they were married at the Mission Inn in Riverside, California. They had two children: Tricia (born 1946) and Julie (born 1948). Pat Nixon, the first president's wife to predecease her husband since Mrs. Hoover died in 1944, died a day after the couple's 53rd wedding anniversary. Encapsulated. Fine condition.
