RICHARD NIXON
The 37th President signs a copy of his book defending his Vietnam War policies.
Book inscribed and signed: "To Herbert Lazarus/with best wishes/from/Richard Nixon", 240p, 5¾x8½. No More Vietnams, by Richard Nixon. New York: Arbor House, 1985, 1st ed. Hardcover with dust jacket. Signed on half-title page. Richard Nixon (1913-1994), the 37th US President, inherited the Vietnam War from his predecessor, Lyndon Johnson. Nixon employed continued US military force, efforts to strengthen the South Vietnamese army and government, and diplomatic negotiations in an attempt to secure the withdrawal of US forces while preserving an independent and stable South Vietnam. Two and a half years after the peace agreement which seemed to end the war, it resumed, resulting in catastrophic defeat for the South Vietnamese army and reunification of Vietnam under communist, mostly northern, leadership. No More Vietnams presents President Nixon's defense of his Vietnam policies. His fundamental thesis is that the US won the Vietnam War, as represented in the 1973 peace agreement, but that failure to enforce the terms of that agreement and to continue aid to the South Vietnamese government were responsible for the collapse two years later. Fine condition.
