RICHARD NIXON
Shown with Pat in a color photo, signed and dated (1975) on the mount, inscribed to longtime friend and secretary Evlyn Dorn.
Photograph Mount inscribed and signed: "To Evlyn Dorn/With the grateful appreciation for her loyal/friendship over the years from/Dick Nixon/10-2-1975". Color, 9½x7½. signed on a 13x11 mounting card. The 37th President has posed with his wife, former First Lady Pat Nixon. Evelyn Dorn was a longtime Nixon secretary and personal friend (from 1937), who had socialized with Nixon and Patricia Ryan before they were married. Nixon might have had second thoughts about Dorn's "loyal friendship" had he known she would later be quoted in Anthony Summers' critical biography, The Arrogance of Power, as saying that he showed little affection for Pat. Whatever the opinions of others, the Nixon marriage was an enduring one. They wed on June 21, 1940, raised two daughters, and remained together until her death in 1993, one day after their 53rd wedding anniversary. Richard Nixon died the following year. Toned at upper and lower edges, touching signature, and around edge of photo. Otherwise, fine condition.
