RICHARD NIXON
Richard Nixon signs a program from the Greater Los Angeles Press Club
on February 18, 1958.
Program inscribed and signed: "Best wishes to/George
Sanders/from/Dick Nixon" as Eisenhower's Vice President, 5p, 7x10,
fastened with gold cord. B/w, oval 2¼x3½ photograph of Nixon on cover.
Greater Los Angeles Press Club, 1958 February 18. Identification sticker
on inside back cover indicates that Sanders was the Station Manager of KWJJ
Radio. "Tribute Dinner and Press Conference for The Honorable Richard Nixon,
Vice-President of the United States Sponsored by Greater Los Angeles Press Club,
Sunset Room, Ambassador Hotel, Tuesday Evening, February 18, 1958." In
November 1962, after losing the race for Governor of California, Nixon told
reporters that they "won't have Nixon to kick around anymore" because this was
his "last press conference". Of course, Nixon couldn't have been more wrong.
During the 1964 Presidential election he campaigned for Republican candidate
Barry Goldwater, and helped to rebuild the Party after Goldwater's loss in a
landslide. Then, in a remarkable political comeback, Nixon received
the Republican nomination for President on the first ballot at the 1968
convention in Miami. He went on to win the Presidency over Democratic
candidate Hubert Humphrey and American Independent Party candidate George
Wallace. Lightly soiled on cover, else fine condition.
