telegram.
Typed Letter Signed: "RN" as President, 1p, 6¾x8¾.
The White House, Washington, 1971 January 19. To Mr. F. Peavey Heffelfinger,
Minneapolis, Minnesota. In full: "This is just a note to thank you for
your kind telegram of January 17. Valuing your judgment as I do, I particularly
appreciated your comments. With warm regards." Signed by President
RICHARD M. NIXON with his initials, which he reserved for friends. The
Peavey Company was a family-held, Minneapolis-based grain merchandising and
processing firm. The F.H. Peavey & Company was established at Sioux City,
Iowa, in 1874 by Frank H. Peavey. Minneapolis became headquarters of the
firm in 1884. The name of the business was changed to the Peavey Company in
1962, went public in 1973, and, in 1982, was acquired by ConAgra, Inc. FRANK
PEAVEY HEFFELFINGER (1898-1979) was the grandson of Frank H. Peavey. He had
served as head of the Republican National Finance Committee during the
Eisenhower Administration. Lightly creased, not at signature. ½-inch tear at
lower blank margin, which is lightly soiled, ¼-inch tear at upper blank edge.
Staple holes at upper blank margin. Names of recipients of carbon copies stamped
beneath recipient's name and address..
