A FRIEND HAS REPLIED TO PRESIDENT NIXON'S "LETTER ON REVENUE
SHARING AND GOVERNMENT REORGANIZATION", TWO PROPOSALS THEN BEFORE THE
DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED CONGRESS
RICHARD NIXON. Typed Letter Signed: "RN" as
President, 1p, 6¾x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1971 March 23. To
Honorable F. Peavey Heffelfinger, Chairman of the Board, Peavey Company,
Minneapolis, Minnesota. In full: "Your reply to my letter on revenue
sharing and government reorganization is particularly helpful. I greatly
appreciate your comments, as well as your favorable judgment on the measures
themselves. I look to your leadership as an important factor in our efforts to
bring about their adoption. With best wishes." From President Nixon's State
of the Union address delivered before a Joint Session of Congress on January 20,
1972, ten months later: "My proposals on revenue sharing, government
reorganization, health care, and the environment have now been before the
Congress for nearly a year. Many of the other major proposals that I have
referred to have been here that long or longer. Now, 1971, we can say,
was a year of consideration of these measures. Now let us join in making 1972 a
year of action on them, action by the Congress, for the Nation and for the
people of America." The Peavey Company was a family-held, Minneapolis-based
grain merchandising and processing firm. The F.H. Peavey & Company was
established at Sioux City, Iowa, in 1874 by Frank H. Peavey. Minneapolis
became headquarters of the firm in 1884. The name of the business was changed to
the Peavey Company in 1962, went public in 1973, and, in 1982, was acquired by
ConAgra, Inc. FRANK PEAVEY HEFFELFINGER (1898-1979) was the grandson of Frank
H. Peavey. He had served as head of the Republican National Finance Committee
during the Eisenhower Administration..
