FORMER PRESIDENT NIXON THANKS AMERICA'S LAST FIVE STAR GENERAL FOR FLOWERS FOR HIS WIFE AFTER HER STROKE

RICHARD NIXON.
Typed Letter Signed: "Richard Nixon", 1p, 7¼x10½. La Casa Pacifica, San Clemente, California, 1976 August 6. Salutation handwritten by Nixon: "Dear General and Mrs. Bradley". In full: "This is just a note to tell you how deeply touched Mrs. Nixon and I were by the very beautiful floral expression of your concern with regard to her illness. She is home now, and slowly but surely making splendid progress toward full recovery. Excellent medical attention, plus her courage and determination, have contributed greatly to the progress she has made. But I am confident that your heartwarming gesture, as well as others, and the prayers of people all over the world, have helped enormously in enabling her to come through this difficult crisis even better and more rapidly than the doctors thought would be possible when she entered the hospital three weeks ago. We shall always be grateful for your friendship and kindness, and we join in this expression of our heartfelt appreciation." From President Nixon's tribute to his wife to family and friends following her funeral services on June 26, 1993: "After her stroke in 1976, her left arm was paralyzed. Some said she would never recover its use. They did not know her. I can see her now, on the patio of Casa Pacifica in the early morning hours, turning an exercise wheel again and again and again. She completely recovered. If you had seen her in later years, you would never have known she had suffered a stroke. She healed herself. No one did it for her...." Light horizontal fold touches salutation. Very slight ink smudge to left of signature. Fine condition..
