RICHARD M. NIXON
Richard Nixon sends a typed letter of thanks for the letter.
Typed Letter Signed: "Richard Nixon" as Eisenhower's Vice
President, 1p, 8x10½. Office of the Vice President, Washington, 1954
November 17. To Dr. Conway Boatman, President of Union College,
Barbourville, Kentucky. In full: "This is just a note to thank you for
your letter of November 12 telling me of your son's interest in securing an
appointment in the Foreign Service. As you know, I would be glad to be of
assistance in any way I possibly could. However, the established custom is to
have such applications processed through the offices of the Senators or
Congressmen rather than through the Executive Department. I am, therefore,
taking the liberty of forwarding a copy of your letter to Senator John Sherman
Cooper. I am sure he and his fine staff will be glad to render any service they
properly can. I appreciated hearing from you and I look forward to another visit
to Union College." In a handwritten postscript, Nixon writes:
"Mrs. Nixon & I will never forget the wonderful reception we had at Union
College. My only regret is that I missed Mrs. Boatman's cake!-" Republican
Kentucky Senator JOHN SHERMAN COOPER later served on the
1963-1964 Warren Commission. Folds, vertical fold touches the "N".
Creased. Overall, fine condition..
