RICHARD NIXON
Richard Nixon sends a typed letter of thanks for the holiday greeting.
Typed Letter Signed: "RN" as President, 1p, 6¾x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1973 December 20. To Mrs. and Mrs. Phil Regan, Pasadena, California. Begins: "Dear Jo and Phil". In full: "This is just a note to tell you how happy I was to receive your letter of December 11. During this holiday season, it is customary to count one's blessings -- and one of my greatest blessings is the knowledge that I have old and dear friends like you, who can be counted on for assistance whenever they are needed. With my deep appreciation and my warm good wishes for Christmas and the New Year." Signed by President Nixon with his initials, which he reserved for friends. On November 17, 1973, President RICHARD NIXON had declared, "I'm not a crook," maintaining his innocence in the Watergate case. Just four days before the Regans wrote to the President, on December 7, 1973, the White House announced that it could not explain an 18½-minute gap in one of the subpoenaed Watergate tapes. Irish-American tenor PHIL REGAN (1906-1996) was married to Jo for 70 years at the time of her death in 1994. Regan had appeared in 26 films in the 1930s and 1940s. Lightly creased, else fine condition..
