President Ronald Reagan was a lifelong baseball fan. He portrayed Hall of Fame pitcher Grover "Pete" Alexander in the 1952 movie, The Winning Team. In the 1930s, he broadcast Chicago Cubs games on radio, often improvising colorful play by play coverage from brief wire service reports. In this period, he became friends with Charley Grimm (d. 1983) - manager of the last two Cubs teams to appear in a World Series (1932, 1945), and his wife Marion. It was while covering the Cubs spring training in California in 1937 that Reagan received his first offer of a movie contract. As related in Reagan's second autobiography, An American Life, he missed a Cubs game while auditioning in Hollywood, earning a "chewing out" from Charley Grimm. 11000 Wilshire Boulevard was the address of President Reagan's office after he left the White House.
